Compressor Oil Coking? High-Temperature Oil Filter Elements Media & Structure
October 24, 2023
Screw/centrifugal compressors run hot and shear oil intensely, producing varnish and carbon fines. Customers see black hardened elements, fast ΔP rise, higher head temperature, and shutdown alarms.
Choose synthetic or glass-fiber media rated 120–150°C, far more resistant to surface blinding than paper. Reinforced metal cores prevent deformation under pressure pulses. A 10–20 μm grade balances rotor/bearing protection with high flow demand.
Maintenance must include condensate control: water accelerates oxidation. Drain routinely, monitor oil color/viscosity, and replace around 1000–1500 hours, earlier if oil temperature stays >105°C or TAN climbs.
